Roko Cancer having successfully assisted in the opening of a breast cancer care wing in SGRD Rotary Cancer Hospital in Amritsar and completing the Treatment room in St. Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney, London, The MKC Trust decided to launch an even more ambitious mission. The Roko Cancer Appeal (Roko means Stop) was, therefore launched in July 2004 by the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in House of Commons. This was followed by a reception in the Leicestershire Football Club on 31/07/04 where GeoffHoon, Secretary of State for Defence was also present.
The first milestone for the charity in India was to create a Bracky Therapy Wing in Sri Guru Ramdas Rotary Cancer Hospital, Amritsar (Punjab). About 20 million people were without this facility.
The second milestone was to complete the treatment room in St. Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney, London.
The third milestone - A journey for a cause commenced with the launching of the first ever fully equipped Mobile Breast Cancer Detection Unit for the diverse communities in India on 16th Dec 2005.
